    Roofing experts

So after this big last snow storm we had water coming through the roof and into a room. We call the last roofing contractor as the roof was replaced less then 7 yrs ago.

He goes out and I'm not home. This is what he tells my wife. The high pitch on the main side of the house is causing the rain water etc to slope down and catch underneath the shingles in this lower room. Thus it leaks. There is damage to the shingles though he can't say they are wind, hail etc. He then states the roof is well over 10 yrs old and just needs replacing.

Little did he know they have been the same roofing company that has replaced the roof the only two times it needed replacement. I'm not happy with what he says. So another company guy and the sales guy meet me at my house. I am now told it is the planks that are warping causing all the problems. The roofing guy has called State Farm already and advised them this is NOT a warranty or insurance issue. State Farm advises me of that. I am going to be out several thousands of dollars to replace sheathing and a new roof.

I call State Farm. Of course they now agree with the roofing guy and state this is on me because it is wear and tear. They state they will get an adjuster out to look at the roof ect. I was advised since this now a "claim" I have one yr to fix it. SMH. Does this seem right? Roofing guys?????

Your best hope is they send an independent adjuster, ( not a staffer ) these guys will do everything they can you justify you a new roof. The leak you mentioned was it from gutter damming during the snow storm. Sometimes the gutter freezes and the section above your heated portion of your house will cause the water to ease up between your shingles, more common up north than in Texas. I speak for the independent adjusters because my best friend and son are adjusters they do not want to waste their time to tell you no.

You should have filed a claim with the insurance first and foremast and not paid anyone to come look at it. Insurance will have someone come look at it. Too late for that as State Farm has their mind made up

FYI a 7 year old roof should not have that much wear and tear. It should be covered under insurance and if not I would switch insurance companies ASAP as they are giving you the shaft

After all the rains we've had recently several roofs are leaking. Some new some old. Also all shingles contractors use aren't the same. I see seconds all the time that look like crap in a couple years. Or you could have the Horizon Shangle that looks like it's been through a baseball sized hailstorm right out of the package. I've got to get up on mine and fix a leak next day or so. Fun fun.

If the roof is only 7yrs old, shouldn't there be a manufactures warranty on the shingles? Have you asked the installer how do you make a claim on your roof to the manufacturer? A 10 to 15 year shingle typically lasts longer than the warranty life. From what you are saying, they sound like they just want to put a new roof on and not help in getting it corrected.

I agree. Your roofing company is full of ****!
Either they have no idea what it is or they know and they're trying to pass the responsibility to you. Send me pics too. I'll give you another opinion.

Just start with a picture of the area just above where the leak is and we can go from there.

You mentioned that the roofer called State Farm and told them that this was a a wear/tear issue. As Chootem would say, that is BS. You need to call SF back and ask your assigned claim specialist that you want a field inspection. They will send someone.

Insurance companies have an obligation to complete a just and thorough inspection before denying a claim. Did they send you and denial letter? Underwriting letter stating you have 1 year to make repairs? Or was this just a phone conversation.

It sounds like one of two things happened. Either there was ice damming that caused water to back up under your shingles, or there is a condensation issue in your attic. Both could have happened in the conditions you described. Both would cause your plywood to be wet and both could cause it to warp. I can't see why it would not be covered under your insurance. I would call your agent and talk to them. If they will not help you, I would consider talking to a better roofer, public adjuster, or attorney. I don't think you are being given good information and I would not give up on pursuing it further.

Phone covesation as told by SF to my wife. I have NEVER had any contractor call the insurance and advise them not to cover the expense. SF is well being and insurance company of course. If they can get out of it they will.

                              I understand your frustration...

It is not likely that the contractor actually called and spoke to your claim adjuster. They might have called the agents office and asked questions about what is or is not covered, but I would be willing to bet they didn't speak with a claims representative. They wouldn't have a claim number to reference and they cant turn in a claim for you. You are the insurance companies customer, not the contractor. The ins company shouldn't even be speaking with the contractor about your coverage's without your permission.

Something is just not adding up here. I would call your claims adjuster and ask them to send out a field claim adjuster.

And my .02 would be to find a different contractor; they should try to work for you, not against you. lol
