Road 244 from Cloudcroft to Ruidoso is usually pretty good for seeing elk (big elk) in the fall but not sure about in winter.

Did it snow again yesterday like the forecast was predicting ?

We drove back yesterday to avoid getting stranded up in the mountain on Friday...

Lincoln is not far from their. That's where the Lincoln county wars started up. Billy the kid broke out of jail killing deputy Bell and Bob Hollinger. Smokey the bear is buried in Capitan and fort Stanton is close also.

It's been a very long time since I was there, but Mountaintop Mercantile in Cloudcroft had some great pie. Fruits of the forest, strawberry rhubarb, plus the standards like cherry and apple.

In Cloudcroft you could rent cheap inner tubes for the day. Just find your own little hill and have fun

I'll see about checking it out! How has your trip been so far? Any mule deer or elk showing themselves?

Don't worry. Stevie Wonder could see big game in that area.

We just got back to San Antonio. The trip was great. First time for us to go to ruidoso. Will always be in the list for a short vacay where there is skiing or many other things to do. Ended up seeing a few nice mule deer off the highway and a small herd of pronghorn. No elk. Plenty snow so the little one loved it. She's still up now talking about it.

I guess once we weren't in a rush to get somewhere I finally started noticing some animals. Didn't stop to look but saw them driving along 380. Next time I'll be looking harder.

I know it's a long shot, but anyone else on the mountain today? I'm up here skiing with my boys.
