    Staph or Brown Recluse?

I've had this red circle on my leg since Sunday and it has grown. Naturally I went to the doctor and he diagnosed it within 15 seconds of walking into the room as a staph infection. He put me on antibiotics 4x a day for 7 days and said it should start receding in 24 hours. Should I seek a second opinion?

I know there's been several of y'all on her with brown recluse bites, so what say y'all?

I also realize that there is no treatment for a BR bite unless necrosis starts.

I have had the unfortunate experience of being bit by a brown recluse. Don't take any chance and go to the doctor. It has the appearance of a recluse.

This photo was taken at the Dr's. He said it was staph, but I'm not 100% sure. I've never had either of them, and it appears to be more recluse than staph from what I've seen others have.

You can get staph In a spider bite. Don't mess with staph.

I've had both and they are almost identical. What antibiotic did he put you on? The strongest one-can't remember it's name- is bad on joints and Achilles. However it does kick staph out the door.

ITS cellulitis with staph and likely MRSA (wont know unless you culture either by biopsy or incision and drainage) i see hundreds of these a year. Its not a brown recluse.!

Did you tell your doctor that you think it is a recluse?
They do look similar however the antibiotics for staph should help if it is a recluse bite. I would voice my concern.

Thats what he said, he said that "ultimately something (spider, bug, thorn, ingrown hair) punctured your skin, and the bacteria that constantly lives on your skin got inside. You body hasnt sensed yet that something needs to be done about it, thats why its still spreading." or something of the sort.

They sent it to the PH electronically, and I havn't gone to pick it up yet. When I do (at lunch) I will let you know.

Thanks! I can rest a little easier, I have big plans coming in March, and a recluse bite would seriously inhibit them. From what I've read, the recovery time on them is extensive.

I told him that I was mildly concerned that was a recluse bite, but he showed absolutely no concern that it was. He was very confident in the staph, he "sees these all the time".

I've had both. That's staph for sure. Painful as hell. Get on the antibiotics asap and take the whole bottle as prescribed. You should start feeling better by the second day but keep taking the pills. I didn't one time and had a setback, kind of a re-infection of the spot. Had to have that one lanced and drained. VERY painful.

Hell yes it hurts. I got some funny looks and questions when I showed up to the office today in basketball shorts lol. Blue jeans rub and irritate the hell out of it it.

Last night at the gym I got real light headed and dizzy. Not sure if its related or not, but that doesnt really happen to me. Hopefully that will go away as well.

My mom just spent 9 days in the hospital with a staff infection like that. Don't mess around with it. They had to lance hers and drain it and it had to be packed with gauze daily.
