I wear one set of my Chippewa's at least parts of 300 days a year. I have several sets and do not put mink oil or any softeners or cleaners on them. The reason is because i believe mink oil etc.... can leave a smell as I walk to a blind or stand during hunting season. I won't take that chance......My advice is to just wear them a lot if you live in the country like I do ....... they will be your favorite boots

Yes sir, make sure you get the heavy duty zipper like the one shown in the pic, got mine done in Conroe, think it ran like 20 or so bucks.

Surprised nobody has said it yet. DO NOT prop your feet up in front of the fire pit. This will shrink your soles until they are shorter than the leather that is supposed to be covered. May be why you had heel problems, also.

My son plays a lot of baseball, so we always have a tube of Nokona glove conditioner on hand. When I got my Chips, I gave them a good rub down with the Nokona glove conditioner and then started wearing them. The first weekend I wore them, I had blisters on the back of my heels. I wasn't surprised, no boot is exactly the same so I figured they would make contact with different parts of my foot than my everyday cowboy boots. After that weekend, I haven't had any issues with them at all. I wear them days at a time and they are super comfortable. I love mine and will buy another pair when I wear these out.
