.243 with the right ammo will work.

I dropped the biggest Hogg I've ever taken with a fmj .223
    He wasn't a 300 pounder, but I'd bet he touched 200 easy.

I would be banging away at him with that .30-30. Killed more than a few around 100 ish yards hauling butt with mine. If first one doesnt get him one of the other 6 after that probably will

Corn the area for a few days then leave it alone to rest for a couple days. Dang old boars are smart, I hunted the same one for 4 months before I killed him. Walked in a long ways, had a good stiff wind, and made every attempt to avoid the area for a while before going into to hunt him. 18 yard bow shot, he ran 40 yards. As far as your rifle selection, either will work, I would prefer the .243. As stated above, if he is moving pretty good put the cross hairs at the tip of his nose and squeeze the trigger, then collect your trophy.

A 300 pounder within a couple of hundred yards is a fairly easy target to hit several times if you get a clear line of sight for a bit.

You should be able to get your first two shots off in 5 seconds. Remember, your first round is ready to go. Just get on target, and pow!

                To practice....

Cut plywood the shape of tire and bolt to tire.

Then, have crazy cousin roll tire down hill and you practice shooting.

                Go shoot hog.

If you are just trying to kill the boar and not get him for a trophy then a bullet anywhere in the body cavity will be his end. We hit shoot some of our hogs thru the gut with bow so they will run off and die away from the feeders. He won't live with either caliber bullet in the chest or gut. Get er done!

Man that's how my pigs are. If I'm out they're not. If I'm not they're tearing up my pasture while I watch tv. Look into the Caldwell dead shot field pod. You'll be able to shoot accurately at your weapons maximum effective range. So if you can see him with your naked eye you can put one right between his eyes.

There are several portable tripods and bipods made for a mobile type of situation.

All day long, and no tracking job.
