I've yet to get my first archery deer because I passed in a big doe hoping for a buck and 30 minutes later u hear a gun go off and it was my doe being shot. I took it as motivation to get a buck

Def would have called a dog for a 30+ axis buck. Hate for any animal but especially one like that to go to waste.

Sorry, if you're offended by my post about not being legal shooting time. It wasn't the only takeaway from his post. If you don't see anything wrong with the time then maybe you're an individual who doesn't follow the rules and gives the rest of the hunters, who follow the rules, a bad image.

Im not worried about rossn2. No big deal. But r yall telling me that a dog can find a gut shot deer with no blood to b found?! Ive always rifle hunted and never needed to use a dog. But i figured a dog was a lost cause. That makes it even worse!!! Lol another lesson learned i guess.

Sorry for the bad luck! Now here's another lesson:
Next time you make a marginal shot, stop, back out and call a deer dog. We are 100% on finding gut shot deer this season. Not saying you have to call us...but at least get a good dog out there. You would probably be holding those horns in your hands right now.
Everyone makes a less than perfect shot now and then. A good dog represents your best chance of recovering that animal.

Obviously its too late for this deer. But i wish i would have called you!

The dog doesn't really need a blood trail per say. Her dog woulda found it.

I typically won't go on a call if the hunter can't find even a drop of blood ...not because the dog can't pick up an intermittent blood trail...but because a lack of a blood trail is indicative of a miss and generally a waste of time, however, if you have an arrow with good blood or stomach content on it or you saw the arrow in him and know it was a gut shot, I would have dropped a dog on it.
Gut shot deer almost always go 200 to 400 yards and bed down, and if they aren't disturbed, that's where we'll find them dead 12-24 hours later.

Well he was def. hit and i saw hin run off with the arrow in him. But i will definitaly take your advice if it happens again and put a dog on it.

Another question is this.

I shoot a mission riot, had brand new arrows and broadheads and from 15 yards it wasnt a clean pass through in the guts. Went about 6" out the other side and thats it. Shouldnt it have blown straight through him that close?
