We always called it river cane. Smaller version of bamboo. Fun to build TP's and huts with the kiddo's with that stuff. Good duck cover also.

So you think it will spread? I don't want any cane that will spread or anything that is toxic to cattle. Any idea on toxicity?

If its river cane it makes an awesome arrow...if its phragmite it also makes a very good arrow but ya need a foreshaft for the phragmite...it doesnt look like that though.

If you plant it, it will definitely spread unless kept in check. Also if you ever mess with it in warm weather make sure you're wearing off, chiggers love it, I know from first hand experience...

Georgia cane. Do not plant it around your blind or you won't be able to see out of it next year.

Always called it River cane also, there's stands of so thick and big along parts of the rio grande and Pecos rivers out here you can't get to the river and if you did get off in it you may never find your way out. Yes it will spread and if it get enough moisture it gets a bit out of control.

I'm not convinced that it will "take over". I see it in patches where there is water, but small patches.
