    What is this?

It's not bamboo. Does it spread or just grow where planted? Thinking of planting it around our duck blind for natural cover.

If it's bamboo... It will slowly but surely take over an area.

Looks like the stuff growing in the bar ditch at the Navasota river on Hwy 79. Almost like cat tails. If it is the same stuff, it's not spreading in the bar ditch. Been in the same spot for years.

Looks to be what is commonly called roseau cane or yellow cane. This is routinely used for duck blind cover here in LA.

Vega cane is what we call it....I wouldn't plant it. Just cut as needed

                That's not bamboo

We have ditches full of that stuff near my job.
Not sure what it's called tho.

Sea cane. Years ago it was used for erosion control.

Btw if you want to transplant it all you have to do is wait until it goes dormant cut a stem and just stick in moist soil. Believe it or not sea cane, bamboo, etc are all just big grass species.

I would not suggest planting any type of cane that is not native. It looks similar to the giant reed that has taken over several waterways in South Texas. Most types of cane spread quickly and choke out native vegetation. Bad stuff
