Large Dog Breed Needed

My wife wants to get a new dog thats good with kids, barks when someone comes to the door (I'm hard of hearing) and that doesn't shed too much. Anyone know of any breeds?

My catahoula barks at people before they get out of their car. I don't even hear them half the time. She sheds but not too bad.

She is more muscular than a cross-fit addict.

I doubt you could muster the courage to cross our fence with our Great Pyrenees. He barks and growls at the slightest movement! Great with our kids and never leaves my wife's side when she's outside. I would not want to deal with him if I didn't know him.

Rhodesian Ridgebacks are pretty close to what you describe.

Boxer...great family dog. My male boxer (Dozer) weighs about 80lbs and our female is 55lbs. He is intimidating to people but is great with our kids.

German Shepherds have a heck of a bark.

Labs bark. You have to teach them. Despite what people say, they'll also latch on to people that aren't supposed to be there. Again, they have to be taught.

I'd go with a german shepherd. They're a popular breed, so easy to find and affordable. Very smart, and very trainable. If you get a pup and raise it around your kids, you should be fine. But most of the other suggestions have been good as well. Key to what ever you get will be training and time spent with the dog.

if you want a big intimidating bark, i would say mastif or great dane. Mind you, neither breed will hurt a fly.
