Almost all dog breeds were based on a use, such as herding for example or bird dogs or other hunting dogs. Individuals that could not perform their intended use were culled.

That's how we got the breeds we have today.

However now AKC only judges on looks and not performance.

Those of us with Working Border Collies do not and will not register with AKC. I am not saying there are not good dogs registered with AKC but when their criteria is based solely on hair coat and conformation that is a recipe for poor performance.

          Don't get a Cane Corso!!!!
A jogger bitten at least eight times by two massive Cane Corso dogs knew he was doomed, screaming and begging for his life as he bled out on a rural Michigan road. Craig Sytsma, 46, was just a mile…

          Just one of many cases.

This is what I was thinking. Buddy of mine used to breed them and they were always friendly to family but their bark and look was quite intimidating.

That's brutal. I once was cornered by two labs here in Katy. I sure as heck let the owner know about it when she came outside. I think all joggers show CHL or carry bear spray. That or jog with your own big Arse dog

Common knowledge and the decline of use by the police and military in the US. It is far too expensive to get good Euro lines and much easier to get a good Mal.

I am an enthusiast of the breed.

Do yourself a favor.......do the research before popping off.

The German Shepherd difference between a German show lines, German working lines, American lines and then the American Back Yard Breeder. You will find all types in America. Before buying your German shepherd puppy or dog you need to understand the vast difference.

Guys - he said one that doesn't shed........
I have a German Shepard/Rhodesian ridgeback mix (Great dog), but BY FAR - the WORST shedding dog I have ever had. I have had Malamute, Husky mixes, Rots.
I love inside dogs and had to make him an outside dog the hair was so bad.
He is a Great dog though - very protective and pretty intimidating.

It was a serious question. I wasn't popping off but why don't you go ahead and explain yourself as to why you have a problem with the breed? ;-)

English mastiff is the best, family, kid dog we've ever had.

Just look up Bob's past post and you will receive a history lesson on the European blood line of GS. He is very passionate and informative, while very biased, he does have facts....

I edited my post with a link for him.

He thinks I "have a problem" with the breed.
