LaRue or Wilson Combat.
All of these were top notch , but the JP's I have shot are crazy accurate.

Buy a Rock River VARMINT EOP Model - RRA LAR-15. Get the 2-Stage trigger, 24" bull barrel with 1:8" twist.

The longer barrel will hunt and shoot long range much better than a 16" or 20" You will get more out of this, a varmint gun, than a true black para-military setup. And this gun doesn't bust the bank.

Spend the big bucks on a quality auto-loader pistol...preferably made by STI!

What do you mean by "best?" Do you want a nail driver at 600 yards or something for personal defense? I just got back from a successful deer hunt with a 11.3" barreled pistol with folding Thordsen Customs cheek rest and that thing is probably my favorite all-around gun right now. In a full sized rifle I'd go with an 18" 6.8. Just build your own honestly - you'll save $1,000 by not buying a Larue and can have the gun just the way you want it. Wilson combat makes solid barrels, and I've also had great luck with Rainier ultramatch barrels with a .223 wylde chamber.

If you want something strictly for self defense I'd get a Daniel Defense or BCM if you want very high quality, or just get a good upper and lower from Palmetto State and make sure the gas block is pinned, it's chambered in 5.56, and you've got M4 feed ramps.

I'm looking for something for personal defense. Something that will go to work straight out of the box! So far the Colt 6920 had my vote for this situation. Keep it coming.

As I mentioned I'd build my own (and have) but if I needed to get something prebuilt BCM would have my vote over Colt's.
