Johnny there are lots of nice AR's out there and many folks with many different opinions. The wife should be able to find a Colt 6920. Cost is going to be around $1100 and they are nice rifles. I could be wrong on price but that is about what they used to run..

Off the shelf I would get a Colt 6920.

Smith & Wesson M&P (not the sport model) would be my second choice.

There are lot of high end AR's. Off the shelf, I would say Colt 6920 is the best off the shelf AR she can get you. Pick up from Academy, Bass Pro etc.
