My dad hunted between Brady and Menard last weekend not far from where you are headed. Bucks were looking, does not ready. I think one guy killed a small axis buck and another killed an 11pt Sunday morning that was it.

Granted it's been a few years since I've hunted my grandparents place but they seemed to start about now when I did. Bummer. Was gonna try to rattle.

This past Sunday in Junction bucks chasing and bucks fighting. A mature 9 mounted and bred a doe while on stand. Of course this may be just beginning and may not be same all over the place.

Last weekend (opening of rifle season) between Mason and Fredericksburg didn't seem like any semblance of rut to me. Did see a yearling spike run a doe off the feeder and followed her a good ways, but didn't look line chasing to me. Also still had young bucks come in and eat together at the feeder, and when the girls came around, they'd run them off, but only a couple steps then go right back to eating.

On the other hand, a buddy on the same place shot an old 9 point that was bowed up ready to fight him and his boy at like 6 feet away. They couldn't run him off, so they shot him.

Sunday must have been the day. Nothing happening on Friday or Saturday but this morning I couldn't get a shot at a doe because the bucks kept running them off. The bucks were 3 1/2 - 4 1/2 year olds and were starting to chase. One "freshened" his tarsal glands on his way to say "how you doing" to one of the ladies.

Just got back from our place between Mason and Fredericksburg. Full rut going on and mature bucks on their feet. Bucks chasing does everywhere. Rattled in 4 bucks this morning, and saw 4 mature bucks locked down with does. Fun time to be in the field if you can be there.
