    Weird noises in the field...

This past Sunday morning I was sitting in my pop up. It was first light, I had a young 6 or 7 under the feeder. I was watching him and hoping his dad would walk out. I heard a rock shift out my right side 20 yards or so, there is a trail the elk walk out on a lot right there. I didn't have the side windows open so I couldn't see what it was but I had my bow in my hand already in case a nice buck walked out.

Here's where things go weird. I could hear whatever it was sniffing the air, but sounded like a big dog or something. Followed by a very awkward sounding grunt/growl. Not a noise a deer or elk or anything like that. It sounded very deep, more growl than grunt, but no real way to describe this sound other than absolutely terrifying. I immediately, drew my pistol and sat there for the next 2 minutes listening to this thing making these noises then ti walked off. When the elk and deer walk down the trail it sounds like a dang cow trotting along on a paved road, very loud rocky trail. On a very rocky and usually noisy trail I heard maybe 2 steps when it left. What my gut tells me is cat, but I hope that's not the case.

Anyone have an experience like that, have an idea of what it was. Hunting north Bandera county for regional reference. Tons of exotics so could just be some weird exotic maybe?

Big boar hog, maybe? They sure make some weird noises sometimes.

Have black bears made it to the area yet? I know there have been some S. Texas sightings.

I've had hogs growl at me before sitting in the stand. It will make the hair on your neck stand up and I was up in a tree.

If the deer and elk are walking on the rocks and is that loud I'm sure a hog would be just as loud....

What did the deer think about that?

.....while hunting, have you ever had the distinct feeling that someone one was watching you, and you began to feel very uneasy or nervous? Was the feeling strong enough that the hair on your arms and/or neck "stood up"?
