Golf Cart Project, have some questions...

My father has this sexy beast sitting in his garage. batteries are shot and so are several tires.

he won't invest in it right now, so i thought as i could afford it, i would fix it up, paint it and get mobile again.

where is the best place to get parts?

    batteries?

thanks, i am sure i might have some more questions as I go and this might be a long running thread, don't know how much I am willing to invest yet.

I had thoughts of going this way and had even found a great cart to work with, that is until I just now priced batteries. No way can I afford the cost of those suckers plus the other stuff I would want to do to it eventually. Good luck with your project.

                yup, i hear you.

i figure $500-600 for batteries to get it running.

and would like to add a lift kit and bigger tires now that i see that can be done for $400-500.

plus, i am pretty good with a spray can

Looks like an old Ezgo Marathon. If I were you I would do a little checking and see if that's a resistor or controller cart. If it's a resistor cart it won't have near the run time of a controller cart especially lifted and you will quickly invest way more than the cart is worth. If you plan to use it, start with the right platform and you'll like it.

thanks for the information, it is an ez go marathon. 1984, i believe. unfortunately the serial # doesn't match in online databases. will have to call for more information.

i will definitely check to see if its a resistor or controller. 1984, probably resistor, correct?

Yes, if I'm not mistaken they didn't switch to controllers until around 1989.

so i would be better off investing in a newer cart?

what about using it for just around 22 acres?

i also have access to 250 acres in east texas and i could trailer a finished product out there. but if this old e z go is not gonna do well on that much land (plenty of hills also) i might reconsider.

Everything I tell you is only my opinion so take it for what it cost you.

I would not spend any money on a resistor cart unless you plan to leave it stock and use it to check the mail.

I had a 1987 marathon, I ran it for over 15years on 300 acres in Pearsall Texas, other than batteries and a solenoid every now and then, it was a great cart, plenty of power all day long. it wouldn't win a speed contest but It ran strong all day. Had a lift kit and bigger tires
Just sold it to TBH'er BigTodd.
