Not many dirt roads where I live.

But there is a nature park not too far. En route.

I've had quite a few, they make great pets. Easy to take care of and eat just about anything. Not the most entertaining of pets, but...

It's a Florida box turtle. Great for kids. Not aggressive. Easy to take care of. They love kale and carrot slices. If it has a concave area on its underside it's a male. I used to have a bunch of them

My Mother in Law who is a turtle expert says that's a box turtle. They do not like being in water. They prefer dry ground. They like dry cat food if you plan to keep it.

Box turtle. Usually find them out in West Texas.

Looks a little more ornate than the ones I see out here in the desert.

Had one as a kid. Had the run of the back yard. Would bury up in the winter time in the flower beds.

Flip it over. Box turtle underside is hinged. When he pulls his head in he can close up his shell. Woodland turtle, doesn't need to be in water. Will also eat ground meat.
