The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a Federal law that prohibits school employees from disclosing student information (which includes generalizations attached to a name or other identifiable characteristic like what you've described. I haven't read through the hundreds of replies, so this may have already been mentioned so I apologize if it has. I just read that the basket from Summer Creek was filled with white cheddar popcorn and crackers...why aren't they in trouble? You could take that basket and put the same spin on it.

Absolutely. Screw dealing with the school directly, I would go straight to the head of the district and get the Texas State Board involved as well. This is not only down right ridiculous, but it is unprofessional and unethical they way the ISD and that AP have handled this situation.

Good lord, it's not like the basket was filled with bananas, fried chicken, and grape drink. So what if it had anything watermelon in it. Take a pole of kids who eat Jolly Ranchers and find out what the most popular flavor is. My guess grape and watermelon top the list. Also why every bubble gum out there comes in watermelon and grape flavors.

Sounds like that whole administration needs to be restructured. And while you are at it, would you do something about Common Core Math. Goodness.

Just got word today after their "investigation" that my daughter will not receive a suspension or be excluded from band since she just got chosen to deliver it at the last minute, however they expect her to write a apology to the other school for...........I have no **** clue. This letter will not be written by my daughter. We will still request a meeting with the idiot in charge to personally tell him to **** up a rope. Sorry, but I'm so sick and mad at this school district my tact has been lost and now I don't give a crap.

Another two of the students that had no clue about the basket and got chosen at the last minute have to write a letter apologizing to this administration for the hassle.

Another student has been found guilty of growing the watermelon in his garden and including it in the basket. He will have the full consequences. My family will stand beside him however and fight his punishment as well as this is just PC crap gone crazy.

There are a lot of questions I have for this head idiot. One is casting such a large net before he had a clue as to what was going on. I firmly believe if he didn't see a fight and possibly legal action on his horizon his original punishment would of stood. Why have myself or my ex not been notified or talked to about any of this at all? We have had to go there and call repeatedly to get any information and mostly get told they are unable to disclose any information about OUR DAUGHTER. Who in the heck do these idiots think they are to make kids write a letter apologizing to them for something the kids had no idea about in the first place? Who is this assistant principal that ran their mouth about my daughter being a disgrace?! There are many more questions, however those are the ones that make me want to turn inside out right now.

There is a lengthy past with this district of mishandling situations in the worst possible way and unsurping parental rights and requests. I suggest people avoid enrolling their kids into the HUMBLE SCHOOL DISTRICT. We have had nothing but headaches from elementary to high school. Truly the most stressful part of parenting for me has been dealing with this school district and their unprofessional conduct time and time again.
