As I sit here and see what has happened here this morning it saddens me greatly. This is not even about what the OP said originally. It has now manifested itself into hate against each other. There are now to sides in this thread. If you take this as a snapshot of our nation and world right now you will see where we are. Everyone has someone to blame. The President caused this, the left caused this, parents caused this, non educated people caused this. We are all responsible. I cannot help but think if God was at the center of our lives how different things would be. There wouldnt be tension about how things are construed. We would love each other because we are truly brothers and sisters in Christ and not different at all. We would learn that because we are forgiven that we can forgive. We are not perfect but when we love how Jesus loves us awesome things can happen. But when we begin dividing ourselves you can just see satan at work. Have a great day everyone. Please stop and say a prayer about this situation for God to be the one to work it out and to receive all of the glory.

If I had money to bet, I would say someone was trying to take a joke too far.
I also believe that people throw "racism" around too much.
There is a major difference in being a racist and being offensive.
This is probably just one of those times that a JA 16 year old decided to be cute but took it a little too far.
But I do believe there was some thought into what was in that basket.
The OP's daughter looks like she got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. Hopefully it sorts itself out.

and yes, 2 of the 4 ingredients of the basket are watermelon. I see what the intention was. I'm not naive.

IT'S NOT ABOUT THE WATERMELON...
I can say this because I just moved from Atascocita, to another subdivision closer to Summer Creek. If my kids were in HS, I would have just moved them from AHS to SCHS.
Atascocita is predominantly White... Summer Creek is predominantly minority, specifically African American.
It was a stupid decision, at the very least, for AHS to give SCHS a Watermelon in their basket. Whoever put that piece of fruit in the basket knew exactly what he or she was doing. I have been to the games between these 2 schools and I have heard the things said / implied. They are less than 5 miles apart and there is no love lost between either of them.
I wonder what the reaction would have been if SCHS had put Saltine Crackers in their basket to AHS?
Just a thought...

I just called the High Scool principal and left a message supporting the kids and and asked why the faculty memebers wich are the kids monitors, teachers, role models and parents to some not being singled out as well to being a part of this. If the kids get suspension so should the band leader and all other teachers who knew and saw this Baskett of Evil.

I've been reading some of the community message boards. Some school employees told some parents that the coconut, pineapple, and watermelon were selected due to sexual references (aphrodisiacs mentioned in recent pop/hip hop songs). Beyoncé and others making reference to eating these fruits before their "bae" comes over. I have no clue. But just something to think about.
Another post said that Summer Creek gave Atascocita HS "crackers and white cheddar popcorn" in their basket. Maybe some racial tension going on? Who cares. Get over it and move on with your life. Victimology 101....everybody fails.

Context, context, context.
