East Texas was sent into a frenzy when news broke Wednesday (Oct. 14) that Brookshire Grocery Co. was exploring a sale potentially worth $1 billion.
Now, a buyer might be here.
KETK NBC in Tyler is reporting, from an anonymous source, that Brookshire’s is exploring a possible sell to H.E. Butt Grocery Company, or more commonly known as H-E-B.
H-E-B, like Brookshire’s, is a Texas-based grocery chain that operates more than 350 stores in the Lone Star State and northern Mexico. It was founded in 1905, about 23 years before Brookshire’s, in Kerrville and now has more than 80,000 employees.
H-E-B has two locations near Brookshire’s home base in Tyler, one in Carthage and the other in Corsicana.
Reuters reported Wednesday that Brookshire’s is exploring a sale of its 150-plus stores that include Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods and Fresh By Brookshire’s in Tyler. H-E-B also owns Central Market, a similar concept to Fresh that has nine locations in Texas.
Brookshire’s employs more than 13,000 people in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas.

If they would buy the market baskets too id be happy

Gonna be a bunch of sack boys out of work. I can't imagine any of the mentioned buyers continuing that tradition.

I currently call on Brookshire Tyler for a major CPG company. They did secure JP Chase to facilitate a sell this past week. However, any speculation on who's buying them is just that at this point. It's not HEB's normal model to grow through acquisitions, they typically build new stores. They do want to get into the DFW market and buying Brookshire Tyler would give them a big push into the DFW area as well as Louisiana.

The first reports I heard was Albertson's was the early leader as they've been acquiring several companies the past couple of years, including Safeway and United out in Lubbock.

I'm hoping for HEB because we moved a few months ago to DFW and I miss shopping at HEB.

One of the guys in my Saturday am Bible Study works in their Headquarters in Tyler.
HEB and Albertsons are two of the companies looking to buy them.
He's concerned because there's a very real probability he's going to not have a job

Yes Brookshire Brothers is a separate company.

X2 after moving to SE Texas a few years ago I can't believe Market Basket is still in business...I actually was looking at buying a house in Bridge City but with no HEB I decided not to....they are over priced, dirty and customer service sucks. I love HEB.

Both Brookshires and Brookshire Brothers suck compared to HEB. You can buy almost a bill of groceries at HEB for what a few bags of things at the others cost.

I have heard great things about HEB. We don't do our weekly shopping at Brookshires due to price but their flagship stores are here in town and they sure are nice. I wonder if they will keep the Fresh store here in town, it is a very nice store that we only shop at as a treat.

Could be the one and only way Brownwood ever gets an HEB.

I heard HEB was buying Brookshires

I also heard they were going to build a Cabelas at I20/69 about 3 or 4 years ago

I am not betting my money on HEB buying Brookshires but you never know

Grew up with Brookshires Brothers in Lufkin off Frank, my dad shopped there more than anyone I know! Great store!

We had HEB there but it was kinda in the hood.

Wasn't until I moved to Houston that I found my love for HEB. We shop at their Bunker Hill/I10 location and it's the best grocery store I've ever been into. The meat/seafood market is top notch!

The wine and beer selection there is 10x better than Specs.

Could be a good deal unless they are buying them to shut them down. Closest HEB is 45 minutes from me and Brookshire is 5 minutes. We do our big shopping at HEB but I pick up small things at Brookshires so I don't have to stand in line at walmart.

HEB is great. I grew up with Brokshires in Overton Texas.

I can't speculate who is going to buy them but someone is. I think the news said the purchase price is $1,000,000,000!
