Tree Stand Camo Pattern of Choice

Depends on the tree and time of year.
Last night I was sitting in a live oak, about 15' up. I was wearing a darker pattern and the buck that fed under me never picked me out, even though he looked up briefly, one time. Live oaks have very dark branches and a dark canopy.
If I am hunting a deciduous tree late in the season, I want a very light colored pattern because I will be silhouetted against the sky.

I usually have on my $5 surplus BDU's in woodland camo and a drifit type material shirt in some camo pattern that was on sale at cabelas when I needed a couple of hot weather shirts to hunt in. If it's cold I have been wearing a jacket that is Mossy Oak shadow grass duck hunting pattern. Be still, have a good bit of cover behind you to break up your outline and play the wind. The deer don't see like we see, modern camo is for the hunters eye, not the deer.

Sit still and make sure you have cover around you. One small shooting land or window and patience is your best bet. I wear mossy oak tree stand a lot. I like more open patterns like vertigo, asat and predator. Down in the hill country I wear max-1 quite a bit in the oaks and cedars. It works.

Camo is for the hunter to look good. Don't move and hunt the wind.Originally posted by ttaxidermy View PostActually this is the truth. Camo is not really needed. It just looks cool.
Yahp.... know a guy who killed a 140" buck wearing a Hawaiian shirt and cargo shorts, from a treestand... I've had entirely too many deer walk up within spittin distance of me, wearing jeans and a carhart jacket...
You guys go on spending your money on camo, and I'll go on filling my freezer without it.
