Yep been to several places in CO that have had CWD and there were deer and elk everywhere. Not saying its something you want anywhere around TX but it just doesnt wipe them out completely.

They say theres no know threat posed to eating a deer with CWD but there is so much unkown about prions I don't think its recommended, this is not a virus its something totally different. CWD is essentially the cervid form of mad cow disease. Theres strong scientific evidence that the agent responsible for prion disease in cows (mad cow), is the same agent responsible for the human prion disease vCJD outbreak in the UK in the late 90's that killed over 150 people, all of whom had eaten infected beef.

My quess is that CWD will be just like mad-cow disease and scrapie in sheep. It will be a big deal and a hot topic for a few years until more is learned about it. Then once it is understood and knowledge of how to deal with it are understood, you will rarely hear of it again. I may be way off, that just my guess.

There is research and possible vaccines being developed that will allow the prion to pass through without the resulting CWD.

Near Estes park is one place. Saw it with my own eyes. Talked with multiple guys that live and hunt up there. It destroyed their local deer population...
