How much scoped weapon shooting experience do your children have? Have they been shooting scoped small bore rifles for a while, and can't hit anything with the red dot scope? Or is this the first time they have looked through magnified glass and still learning to aim?
Also, do you have the ability to use open sights with this xbow? And do they shoot better that way?
Personally I think it isn't the scope, but the kids shooting ability with the xbow. If the stock is too big, or they are scared of the sound, or just don't have much experience behind the glass, it stands to reason that they might be all over the place in relation to you and each other. That is where I would look first, and since you know how they shoot, go from there.
