I am actually looking at doing the custom1enterprise 12V to 6V cable, 12V 9run hour battery, and a 12V Mono-Crystalline Solar Panel. Then I will use 12 NiMh rechargables internal which may be overkill. I have heard with this setup you will only need 4. I have read were someone has had this setup out well over a year and battery indicator still shows 9.

No need to go through all that. Mine has been running for 10 months on 12 AA rechargeable internals and the Covert solar panel. The only time I see a drop in battery level is if I have a LOT of night time pics. My camera is set up to take 3 shots with a 1 minute delay between bursts.

What brand batteries?
ANd you havent recharged them at all? I have a Moultrie Feeder PowerPanel on mine instead of the COvert Panel and have results nothing like that.
Weird. I have had my NIMH's in for 5-6 months total and now they wont hold a charge over 7 which is to be expected I think. They will last 2-3 weeks before I need to recharge them BUT I have it on a 30 second delay and get 100 pics a day.
It is also in direct sunlight and still cant keep up.
I would assume yall have a lot less pics being taken?
I get probably a dozen pics every morning and every evening. I do NOT have rechargeable batteries in mine. Between Labor day and September 19, it sent me 355 pics. Since then, I've gotten 4 or 5 hundred more. Batteries still are showing "9" on the last pic I got about 10:30 this morning.
The camera is not on a feeder. It is set up on a trail down in a pretty dark bottom. I didn't think a solar panel would work in there so I just went with regular batteries (DuraCell's).
The NiMh's will not last as long as a good alkaline battery set up, but IF you are using a solar panel set up the NiMh's will hold up better than NiCad's.

Very soon you will notice it drop from 9. I get a lot more pics daily so that is why I am worried about better alternatives.
For your setup, alklaline batteries work well. For me getting 100 pics a day at a feeder they will only last 2-3 weeks
Have mine set up with a cheap 6v Moultrie Solar Panel (changed out the connector to a 4mm size needed for the Covert) and Panasonic NiMH batteries. It ranges between 4 and 7 on the battery indicator, but it's been running all summer and has sent me thousands of pictures with no signs of giving up.
