If you are going in to your stand at 3 a.m. it will be almost 4 hours before the sun comes up (and probably when your feeder throws). That's plenty of time for the woods to settle back down. However that old smart buck knows his area pretty well and will use the wind to decide if he wants to go get some corn breakfast or not. That will be your biggest challenge. Are you hunting from a ground blind or from an elevated stand?

And I like your red light idea. It sure couldn't hurt.

Wait. Sitting in a stand for 3-4 hours before hunting light?

Man, it's just a dang deer.

              LOL.

Looks good to me. I use red or green lights. Deer can tell something is going on, but have a hard time figuring out what it is. They will react to red and green lights. Of course if the deer see head lights in their area all the time, then headlights wont bother them. Kinda like them hearing your truck. Our lease has trucks driving through it daily, the deer don't react to the sound. Four wheelers though will send them running. Good luck this season. That is a nice buck. I would just crawl in on my hands and knees. lol

Only buys you a few seconds with those kill lights. I use the green light on my rifle for hogs. Start the light up high and bring it down.

You have a few moments to get the shot done or they gone.

So yeah, I agree with you, they sure as heck CAN see both red and green light.

I thought same thing. I've watched deer stand in tree line and watch trucks pass headed to stands then step out in open 30s later as tail lights disappear. They will hear your truck for almost a mile due to higher frequencies than you can hear etc. Just put the parking lots on take it easy driving in and get there an hour early. 4 hours early and red headlight covers is way overthinking. Just my two cents. Good luck.

Yeah, you are right. Another year probably wouldn't help those short tines.

I personally think your way overthinking this especially since the bedding grounds are 1200-1500 yards away but if it helps your confidence then go for it.

Is it legal to drive down a public road with red headlights? Or are you going to put the cellophane on once you get to the lease? Sorry for my ignorance, but good luck with whatever you do.

My lease is pretty good size. So no I wouldn't be driving on any public roads
