ruger MKII with a 3x9 redfield tracker...I've killed probably 50-60 deer with it along with a few hogs, coyotes, and one mouflon sheep
    Then I would take it.

What are you shooting in the 7mag?

Sounds to me like your confidence is in the .270. That is a HUGE factor when it comes time to make the shot. My first elk was a 275 yard shot with my Remy 700 .270. He dropped in his tracks, but when I pulled the trigger I knew EXACTLY where that bullet was going. Sounds like to me that's what you think as well, and I'd agree. IF you don't have time or resources to bring the 7mm up to speed for your thinking, you'd be much better off with the .270 and loads you have confidence in and plenty of.

270 more than enough for elk. Have at it!

            I'd gladly take a .270 elk hunting if I didn't already have a 7mm handy.

It all depends on making a good shot. It dont matter how big a caliber it is if you make a bad shot, except maybe when using .50 cal and bigger.

Take the .270. You are comfortable with it so most likely will make a better shot...... A well placed 270 rounds is way better than a crappy shot with a 338.

I wouldn't hesitate one bit about taking the .270. That's the largest caliber rifle I have & I've taken several Bull Elk with it along with numerous Nilgai.

                    I have a 7mm and a 270. I'm a Jack O'Conner believer so maybe I'm biased but I like a 270 better than the 7. I can do anything with the 270 that I can do with the 7.

I've watched my father kill several elk and 2 moose with a .260.

A .270 should work out fine.

Agree with all here. Shouldn't be an issue with a confident .270

I shot my elk at age 14 with a 270 and 150 grain bullet. THe elk was 450 yrds so range is not an issue either.

                              I would take the 7mm

Might as well switch it to 160gr Accubonds(or something similar that it will shoot)...you have speed covered with the Roy.
