I have never been hunting for pronghorn but I will more than likely have the opportunity this year. It will be up in the Texas Panhandle. I am looking for some pointers from the GS members that have some pronghorn experience. What time of day do they move the best, little tricks and tactics, etc...... any info and pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!!!

They are curious you can take a white sheet put it on a stick and wave it then duck down so they can't see you and do that a few times and we have had them come up to us with in 100 yards. You can also buy a cow decoy and get up to them very close. They move in the morning and late in the evening.

I have never hunted Pronghorn in Texas but I have in Wyoming/Nebraska. Their eyesight is their defense mechanism so its hard to get close to them. Our success in Wyoming and even western Nebraska was done hunting over a water source out of a pop up blind. My shots were 20-35 yards but a spot and stalk could easily be 70 yards plus. Good luck to you. Its one of my favorite wild game meats.

It is just really flat country and nothing around for cover. There is a bulk cattle feeder about 50 yds from the guzzler that I may try and set a popup blind by but 50yds is a poke and I am afraid it may jump the string or turn and the shot will be bad.

Where I was hunting the Antelope seemed to come to water between 10am-5pm.
Yeah I am scared I would have one spin on me or jump the string out passed 40yds. I will be hunting up towards the NW corner of the TX panhandle.

I have hunted the last three years in the Texas Panhandle and will be up there again this year the first weekend in October. Where I get to hunt it is virtually impossible to bow hunt :-( but I still enjoy shooting them with a rifle. The reason bow hunting isn't really possible is because there are fields all over the place that have standing water from the sprinkler systems and they don't have to come to a specific water hole. We do a lot of driving and glassing until we find what we want and set up an attack plan. They are very difficult to judge. I thought I was getting better at it but last year a buddy of mine shot one that we both thought was pretty nice and when we ground checked him he was not near as nice as we thought. Not even close! lol
