If you could choose one place

In the state of Texas, we have quite a few different geographies and climates. Yes, it gets hot everywhere, but it also gets pretty chilly during the winter in some places and the northern part of the state gets snow and ice regularly. With deer season approaching, I always find myself wondering just where I'd like to hunt for the rest of my life. My ideal spot would have the following attributes:

    1) Hills. Not easy slopes, but good steep hills

    2) abundance of trees

    3) Dry air with cold winters

    4) opportunity to hunt year-round (exotics)

    5) water

I came to this conclusion after a trip to concan, and have really started to drill down and set a goal to own some land around the real, Kerr and Kimble county area. It just feels right, and the abundance of free range axis seals the deal.

I know not everyone shares the same opinion, so what is your ideal spot in Texas. Basically, with money as no object and no worries on driving distance, where would you choose to own land/hunt in Texas for the rest of your life?

If I could choose where to live it would be Kerrville. I think Kerr county is beautiful and the hunting is good too.

If the decision is based of just climate, hunting and scenery then yes, you got it. Unfortunately we got to work to pay them bills

Hints the reason we don't live on our 77 acres 15 mins from Kerrville

The Concan area has always been high on my list. Rocksprings and Mason hold a special place for me too.

Oh I know... In a perfect world, it wouldn't be a big deal to up and move 4 hrs away from family. I'd find me a job as a loan officer at a bank in Kerrville and my wife would find a job at an insurance agency. Then we'd just live in town while we groomed a nice patch up to build a house.

But, I'll stick with staying here and saving up. Gotta adult really hard (as JTRichardson would say) and one day I'll be able to have a slice of heaven

Since we are playing money and distance is no object then I will take the Chisos Mountains. I dont mean a place or ranch near the Chisos I mean the entire moutain range. Just tell me where to write this imaginary check please LOL.

Yep, we visited that part of the State for the first time this past spring when we went to Garner/Concan and Lost Maples/Vanderpool area. It was incredible to say the least. But like others have stated, kinda hard to make a living out there, so it would be rendered to recreational property only.

A very close second for me is where I am currently hunting right now in the hill country. The deer are small, but I'm not a trophy chaser, so they suit me just fine. Steep hills are over-rated when you have to drag deer up them.

On the Nueces River so I can catch catfish etc and hunt alligators in the offseason.

San Angelo or Kerrville. Maybe Sonora, out where Drake lives.

If I was restricted to Texas then it would be Donley County - Clarendon area.
