My experience is to avoid them if possible, definitely a young hunters tool for climbing. They are much safer going up and coming down during daylight hours. And definitely not for us folks with a few extra pounds around the waist.

We did stagger ours when we used them but don't let the tallest member install them because it hurts the average height folks when climbing.

I agree with this guy, go with a stick ladder instead. My experience was when they seemed all the way screwed in most of the threads were actually in the bark.

great tool for hunting a tree in a pinch and save time. i space mine about 1.5 ft to 2ft apart. Its conservative spacing, but comfortable and safe, i angle mine on backside of tree then to cuvre to stand, this way if i fall, i dont hit them on way down. I have used them when my weight was 240. Never and issue. Only draw back, hard to remove in rain and ice, take your time up and down. i also have a drill adapter that makes quick work of getting them in...To each their own, but i like em.

I'm 5'9" . I m not sure how hi. I'm trying to figure out if it would be cheaper to buy steps or sticks.
I found some nice spots on my lease in the oaks that my climbers won't work.

We use them on some of our stands. Keep them spaced close enough that the shortest guy of the group can comfortably use them and they aren't a problem. Screw them all the way in to the tree as well, just just halfway.

Man honestly I would go with sticks, those steps can be a real pain. I also think sticks are way safer, just from my experience those screw in steps are super slippery when they get wet or muddy. If I were you I would just save up the extra cash and get one that has the grip tape on the steps, the money will be well worth it.

Just go to Baytown Academy and grab a set of 20' sticks. They work well and are way safer than those screw in steps.

This is a to each their own type thread but I choose to use screw in steps. If you wasn't until after the season you can pick them up cheap at Walmart. I bought 30 of them for like 75 cents apiece. I have never measured how far apart they are I just screw them in based on comfort.

You can get the 20ft guide gear sticks of Amazon for $40. I've been using mine for 2 years now and have no complaints.

Foot to knee depending on how much clothes you have on. My opinion

we use both, and i prefer the steps. the ameristeps have a turned up end which gives you better traction. i use a driver which makes the process of placement and removal easier. place extras, or let the oldest hunter place them so they won't be too far apart.

It doesn't hurt to use 1 or 2 of those steps for something to grab on to or for a step. Other then that, I wouldn't use them.
