Why not use an extension ladder secured to the tree?

After fighting with putting the tree steps in and moving stands or changing leases I decided I am too old and fat. I bought or made ladders.

used them years ago but now all I use are ladder stands or stacking sticks with my loc ons, always feared falling and ripping my guts out on them. I will still use one or two here and there to get in and out of stand if necessary. scary to have one come out when you step on it. Also use a couple get up a couple feet in a cedar then use the branches.

we actually use straight ladders and extension ladders to place our stands, stacking sticks, ladder stands. Safer than ratcheting the sticks as you climb, or climbing a ladder stand without the top secured. The multi ladders are great, can adjust to the length you need up to 16 feet.

                  Simple:

The distance between the tip of your finger to the tip of your elbow!

I use climbing sticks/ladder and then add 4-5 screw in steps as handles and added height at the top of my ladder beside my lock on stand. Coach

I found some nice spots on my lease in the oaks that my climbers won't work.

Mike Big Dog Tree Stands makes some 24' Sticks also very reasonably priced. I got some for up here.

I'm 6'2" and I space mine as far as possible to keep the short poachers away

I like using them only as a hand/foot hold in awkward spots after I have a ladder/sticks secured. Screw-ins to get up the tree are a pain, especially if they are wet.

Don't make the steps more than 24" on the same side of the tree. That will make each step up of 12". That is comfortable for most any body.

Whatever distance that allows you to maintain 3 points of contact.
