    Rossi .223 won't open

Got a brand new Rossi youth .223 single shot. First shot out of the box, and it won't break open.

    How do I fix it?

Not sure! Is the release working or no? Could be gun problem, could be a over pressure problem that caused a primer to back out or case to swell. Myself, I would start tearing it down until I got it apart, but I'm just kinda turned that way, I like to see what makes things work the way they do.

Take it back. Not worth trying to fix, especially if your kiddos are going to use.

Did you fire a 5.56 round in it vs a .223 round. The 5.56 will chamber in the .223, but have higher pressures than the .223. The higher pressure could have blown the primer out as noted above, or caused the brass case to expand to the point it is locking things up. I would send it back to Rossi.

Send it in that's not good. I have two I have to send in myself.

Send it back. Get an H&R single shot.

If the latch seems to work, it is a swelled up case stuck in the throat and should come out with enough force. Might tear the case apart though. If the latch isn't working, it's defective.

                I'm sorry...it's a .243 not a .223. The latch seems to be really loose.

I have the same exact problem with the same gun I tried to open it and broke the gun. Take it back!!
