Get ready for the "oh poor Curt" comments.

I felt the same way about Nanza this year. I didn't go. I'm still alive. It'll happen again next year and maybe I'll feel different and go. Either way, life goes on!

I'd like to step in and help you, though (where Justin left off). I'll volunteer my time to hunt your lease in south Texas. I'll even split the meat with you so if change your mind after it's too late, you'll still have something to make you feel better.

My Kiddos have definitely affected my extra curricular, and I love it. When they were younger I still had a drive to get out and feel the rush. As they have gotten older and become more involved in their own activities, there is nothing I enjoy more than watching and experiencing what they are involved in.

It's a sickness, but just to go watch a practice and take in how much they have learned and the progression is amazing to me. Nothing makes me more proud and nothing gives me the joy that they induce.

Ive taken that same approach to my Brothers. Being as involved as possible and doing everything I can to help them in any way I can. It takes a lot, lol. It is also the most rewarded I have ever felt when getting face timed by my Nieces or congratulated by my little Brother after one of his football games. Nothing compares, and for me at least, its not a phase.

I know what you mean. I kinda got a little burnt out on fishing so right now I am spending more time at the ranch doing projects etc. I guess its all about balance.

Right there with you Curt, I'm just not that into hunting as I used to be. I will still plan a hunt or two but most of my time now is fishing with family and friends or just spending time with them

This is why I have been searching for an axis lease. Them Axis get me excited like the deer used too when I was younger. Well now the Elk are getting me excited too. So guess try and change it up

Curt, Its a cycle. I think there is a lot of wisdom in your priorities. Enjoy your family, things change at an amazing rate. Enjoy your business. God only knows how many people out there need good jobs as well as how many have jobs they hate. God has blessed you. Nothing wrong with enjoying his blessings.

In a few years, the hunting bug will likely strike again. Its great to keep it in perspective. Hunting doesnt define you, its just something you do.

i was thinking about this very issue last wknd when i was up at the farm getting a stand ready. What i miss is that feeling i used to get when it was all i could do to sit at my desk on a friday waiting to bust out and head for the nearest tree. I still love to get out and i enjoy the quiet time but i don't have that emotional/adrenal rush i used to have. I honestly hope it comes back because it was a good thing, although sometimes very distracting.
I think i get more excited about the process of getting ready for the hunt, hanging stand, feeders, food plots etc. more than the actual shot.
guess it's part of getting older. i'm really excited about my 5yr old boy hunting this winter though, he tells me he is ready to shoot something!

When you don't have any games to go to anymore, you'll be ready to hit the woods again I imagine.

Don't ever feel bad for choosing time with your family over hunting or anything else. (I know you don't.)

Those very same girls that are using up your time today will bring you something that will put you back in the woods in a few years

Same happened to me. As a young man I lived to be in the woods and working with my dogs. Then along came family and career. For 10 or 12 years I got away from it, at least to that level. But about 10 years ago the kids were getting older and the career pace slowed a little. Now I am back counting the days till I can get in a tree. Wasn't a plan just sort of a natural flow to life. I have notice my real joy now comes from taking kids and new hunters out and the off season management chores are alot more fun now. Take advantage of you kids and career for awhile. The deer will still be there in a few years and you might have a grandkids to take with you.

He is indeed, unless the girls go all out and load his boat with 5-10 apiece.

I was being conservative. Most likely 16. They can have 4 each.

I love it and can't wait for my kids to get old enough to be able to go. I don't pull the trigger as much as I used to, but have taken up shooting a bunch with a camera. I have a few friends who are like that juggling businesses, kids activities and other obligations, but have their leases/properties down in South Tx to hunt. A couple have opted to lease land close to the house (like <15 minutes away) and when they need a morning to recharge or have time to take the kids for a quick hunt they can do it and not be worried about missing out on anything.
