Curt, when our kids (1 daughter, 1 son) began to do sports, my hunting time went to near zero... I didn't miss it one bit. I had fun being a baseball/softball dad/coach... they both played all kinds of ball and I loved every minute of it. Neither of them played sports in college, so once they started college, I started back to hunting/fishing more, still not as much as in my youthful years, but more... My daughter/son-in-law have given my wife and me 2 wonderful grandsons, and the Lord worked His plan in all that as those boys and our faith is what got us through the death of our son back in August of '13... Hunting/fishing is still something I like to do, but I sure don't put anywhere near the effort into it that I used to! On our place out west, my feeders have been empty since Spring Turkey Season... that's the first time they've been empty in probably 10 years... and you know what, I ain't too enthusiastic about goin' out and filling them either! ... thinkin' 'bout Labor Day, but not sure... Now when those grandsons get a year or 2 older, watch out!

I hunted from age 8 to 16 pretty much religiously and then 17-24 I was just to busy with baseball to ever think about being in the woods and I felt the same way you do now. I didn't even care to be in the woods. Once I turned 25 and finally got a lease of my own with dad I couldn't wait to get back out there. Even today I am still itching to get in the tree stand in October. Seems to be like most forms of entertainment, you just down right lose interest at certain times in your life.
Two years from now you may be posting the complete opposite of this.

I'm 42 With 3 kids. I love spending time with the family, but I count down the days to hunting season.
Once the day gets here I really don't feel like going unless my son is with me. If he has to work and I go by myself it's just not the same. I used to hunt for days solo. Odd, but I guess we change as we age.
I just wished my girls wanted to hunt as well

I am in the same boat, Curt! Bobby and I use to go to the lease every chance he got a weekend off. I never missed a morning or evening hunt. I missed a couple of weekends of hunting time with Hunter and Bobby when my son was in high school for various activities, but he was not into sports like my daughter, Hunter. She played football the last two years and now this year she is videoing for the team on Friday nights. In the Spring, she has powerlifting meets on the weekends and is in track. I probably hunted less last year than I have in the last 20 years, but that is okay because I have gotten time to spend with my kiddos. When I am at the lease, it is a sure bet that I will not make the morning hunt, I find sleep to be more important when I get the chance to sleep in. I usually get about 4 hours a sleep per night, after work, kids' activities and LSBA stuff. I more enjoy taking Hunter and her little cousins exploring, fishing, riding around or hunting when I am at the lease. We have been doing a lot of bowfishing and 3-D shooting the last couple of years. In addition, we have been on LSBA hunts as a family and all volunteer introducing kids to archery, plus Hunter has been on several GW Youth Hunts, while Bobby and I volunteer. We still get to spend a lot of time outdoors hunting, bowfishing and fishing together, I am just not as mad at the critters as I use to be. In fact, Bobby is leaving for the lease this morning and I am staying, so Hunter can video the Varsity game tonight and I am REALLY looking forward to sleeping late in the morning!!

My first child was born (a boy) less than 2 months ago, and I have already joked with my wife that he is already signed up for hunter's ed. I have access to some property close by I am trying to get out to this season though I don't think I will be out there much. I have not been able to get out there to do anything in months, but there are more important things in life.

Whether or not it's elk, moose, bear...whatever, I say get out of the box and turn full on Indian. I didn't get drawn for my elk tag this year, so I'm going back to deer hunting this year, and I don't know how I'm gonna take it yet.
