    I like the cast iron handle guess, just looks to small to be so.

      My mom always used a fork to mash the edges of a pie. No big deal. Like stated earlier she never thru anything away.

                          I'm thinking a tool to open old school tin lids like paint cans. Things like syrup, lard,peanut butter etc. used to come in cans like that. Pry with the tapered end with the hole and then "roll" the lid up with the other end once you have it cracked.
