It is cheaper to put everything in the attic. Does not take away from use able square footage.

Water heaters sometimes are done the same way.

Old mobile homes have them in the floor. Hated when my kids would put crayons or dirt would fall in it it.

Makes arranging funiture around them fun and you have cold spots next to them. I will not have them again if given a choice.

That's your condenser. He is referring to the air handler where the conditioned air is distributed from.
