Why do we put our AC in the attic?

Spending the weekend with family in OKC. They live in a brand new custom home on a concrete foundation.

A/C duct are run in the floor with vents in the floor. It got me thinking, why in Texas do most of us have our A/C ducts in the hot attic when it seems running them in the floor would be much more efficient?

So, their floor is off of the slab?

Here's my thought. Because cold air is more dense and falls. We cool way more than we heat our homes so this is more efficient. In OKC, I'd imagine they heat more than cool.

Why do we use the term "Legally drunk"? If they're legally drunk, why do they get arrested?

Are you saying their duct work is IN the slab?

              x2.

Sure it wasn't one of those modern day pier n beam, made to look like a slab?

Agree here. I've had vaulted ceilings in a couple of houses and having the air fall into the couches feels great. Most often in newer houses in TX that are spray insulated they pull air from the attack as well keeping everything a more constant temp. Winter time those houses were naturally cooler in the living room than bedrooms due to high ceilings

Yes. Ducts are in the slab. Solid slab. Not a pier and beam home.

Grew up in OKLA. Helped build my parents home and the ducts are in the solid foundation. Units outside and in closet in the garage. Seems to cool very well. Plus it is usually hotter in Okla than here all summer. We will be building another hm soon and I will do the same down here.

Build pier and beam and run duct under the house. Just don't set the couch over the vent...

I've heard about how they do that up there. Never did get a reason why/why we don't here.

Probably the same reason we drive on the "parkway" and park on the "driveway"?

in the attic because more room and cold air falls toward the floor promoting better cooling in the house.
