Rio 6 shot with a modified choke will smoke them before they're close enough for anyone else

Actually, I've read several times that #6 will knock one down with a single pellet. It's good ammo if you can hit them with it.

I use 1 1/4oz of 7.5 with an IC choke. That gives me enough bang downrange to get distant flyers, but, at close range, enough shot spread to get the ones that suddenly fly right in my face.

A .410 has 1/2 oz in the 2 1/2" she'll and kills them as dead as you can get em.

They sure packed a good thump, and worked well for breaking in a gun. Couldn't bring myself to spend that on dove loads though. Fiocchi texas white wing loads with 1 1/8 oz of 7.5's at 1250 fps at $5.99 a box are fine for me.

Bought a few cases of those years ago quail hunting.... They would let you know you had shot something at the end of the day.

          Rio in my 12g
AA in my .410, cause I need the hulls for reloading. Euro trash hulls don't do too well

Speaking of mid way had a sale going on 28g and .410 AA LIKE $96 a case

Honestly, There is a good balance with shot shells as I'm sure you know...most dove hunters don't care & enjoy throwing more lead vs knowing what their gun is actually doing. Most shot gunners do not put the attn. down range like they do with their bows & centerfire long guns. Think about it...why do most dove hunters not know what pattern they have coming out of bbl like clay guys?? Because if missed, there are more shells & doves. "hand me another box"

Not an insult, but most posting & have never even patterned their shotguns & just touting the ammo. (they don't REALLY need to pattern) as most ONLY hunt MAYBE 1/2 dozen times a year & what is an extra box per hunt in all this??

However, I can tell you that the 1oz lite target load I shoot & about $1/box more will have a better pattern density downrange than ANY of the mass produced 1 1/8oz hot loads that come out during every dove season...reason for this is you have harder shot going a little slower that does not deform & has a better wad / control. What does it mean...not sure about you, but I love getting my limit with the least amount of hulls brought back.

The hot loads with softer / cheaper lead & some plastic to separate the powder do what they are designed for...get lots of lead out of the bll & beat up the shooter unnecessarily.

Happy hunting fellas...the neatest time of the year is about on us!! Dove hunting is my favorite hunting sport & being a former hardcore clay guy, put more into it than needed. Main thing you guys get out & enjoy the lead poisoning. Be safe & may the sky be thick this year state wide!!
