I can back Ryan up on this as I have hunted several times with him and the scene was pretty much like the pics he has here

New to this forum. But I have a Yamaha Rhino and I love it. I've had it to the bottom of the seat in mud and water and it went right through it no problems. I've had twenty 40 lbs bags of corn in the bed and it handled it just fine. The dump bed also makes life easier when you have a bag of corn bust open. I also have a can am 1000 and that thing is sweet. But for utility, rhino is the way to go!

I bought a 15 Polaris ranger xp 900 single seat. I wanted the turning radius. It is used to check my electric fences almost daily and to spray weed killer and grass killer. I just wish there was some way to keep out the dust. I live in deep sandy land. I have noticed a whine or squeal that comes from engine. It happens at 3000 rpm at first but now it's starting at 2200 rpm even in reverse. Checked on Polaris ranger 900 forum and found out this is not new several date back to 2013. It supposedly comes from secondary clutch . The cure is to replace the clutch but kents power sports on 35 n said that's not it. I fixing to have a meeting with them. This thing is new still has 64 hours on it. Thinking about the lemon law on it......Andy

Get a back windshield for it, it makes a huge difference for the dust. The sxs create a vacuum that sucks in a lot of dust through the rear. You can get a glass one but i prefer the vinyl ones that you can unzip if needed.

Gullo Yamaha has a 2012 400 Ranger if anyone is interested. Picked up a 2016 Wolverine Saturday.

I hardly think so. It is a 2012 model. Now has new rear axle, belt, brakes, bearings, cv joints, and shift cable. Came new with intake valves and exhaust valves improperly adjusted.

You can bet I will not buy another one. I will not even get into what some of the new ones are already having issues with. unreal.

If you like em buy em. I won't own another one.
So, I'm starting to see that the issues are seeming to center around the wheels/tires. What size/type of tires were you running on the Ranger? What size Ranger was this also?

Every brand has some units that come with valves out of spec from the factory. That's why they're all checked/adjusted on the first service.

Shift cable deal is what it is. They can't all be perfect.

Andy, is this happening when you let off the gas or are you applying the gas when you hear the noise?

Same size tires that came from factory. No lift kit or anything. Still all factory.
                  Size is a 400.

One of my son's and I have both had Mules, Rangers, then at least for me...went with a '02 Jeep Wrangler. He's looking to trade his UTV Ranger for a Jeep now.

Nothing wrong with the jeep option at all, I have a 1974 Toyota Land Cruiser, it is nice but it will not go where most of the side by sides will go.

I still miss the UTV days, but like the AC/HEAT option. But, we have our Jeep "comfortized" and I won't take it where we would take the UTV'S, so good point. At least for me, it's the ever steady advancing age...always in search for functional comfort

Size isn't typically the issue. Where the problem comes in is weight. While they may be the same size, tire weights can be significantly different from one brand to another. Especially some of the lesser known brands of tires. The 400 Ranger is dramatically under designed compared to the full size Rangers. That was a lot of the problem. Bad idea by Polaris on that model. Those axles on the 400's are barely designed to withstand the stock setup. A change of as little as 5lbs. per tire can cause all the problems you mentioned excluding the valve clearance and cable issue.

You'll like the Yamaha, they make a good product. If you decide to change the tires just make sure you buy something that is comparable on weight. Yamaha has the same problem with axles, cv joints, bearings, and brakes when you get a heavier set of tires on them. Yamaha is what I'd own if they could handle heavier tires.
