That pic was shot by my wife with a iPhone. It was taken on my lease, not at cap rock canyons, but the terrain is the same and the aoudad all come from the same initial stockings. This is a good one, there are Giants out there.

SoI can blame you that I didn't get drawn?

        Good luck on the hunt!

Thanks for all the input fellas. I am taking it all into consideration. I have hunted audad in Rocksprings, but that was at a feeder. (my avatar 24") I know this is not the same. The hunt info for the area says to be ready for 200+ yd shots. I have been practicing 300 and am planning on bumping to 400 with my .308. I would like to get a good one to do a mount with the front legs on it to truly show off the chaps.

I can't believe he let you get that close! They are usually as skittish as a whitetail.

I think more so. I had wind perfect and a windmill was close giving me cover noise. He flipped when he noticed me. Proves you should always take your bow with you.

                  Good luck! And congrats!

My great uncle used to own the turkey hotel.

I drew that hunt a couple years ago. Great hunt, but very hard. The terrain is unforgiving and rough unless you get one of the front compartments. If you do get one of the front compartments, you're better off targeting hogs as it's flat cedar country and don't see many sheep out there. I drew the far back compartment and it was the best unit I was told, but also the roughest and thickest. Lots of pigs along the creeks. Glass with good optics until your eyes hurt. Get comfortable with 300yd shots for sure. They will help you get animals out if you knock something down too. They will, or did then, let me go through another unit on a rim trail to get into mine. I couldn't hunt it, just use the trail to get topside access to the backside of my compartment. That trail though looks like vertical rock steps. My knees still hurt....
