    Have Experience With Port-A-Cool?

I'm looking at one of the smaller port-a-cool portable AC units to be used primarily at tailgates in September/October... Does anyone have experience with them, and if so, how well do they work?

We have a lot of the big ones at work. As long as you couple them with shade and keep the water "cool" they do a pretty goo job. You can dump a bag of ice in the reservoir and keep it cooler. Every now and then a little bleach and they will last unless you let it go dry

I have one in my shop work area. Only way to be in a tin building in this heat. Does a great job

I have a big one in my shop and couldn't work without it in the summer.

The trick is do NOT flood it with water on the wet side, it works better with very little water on the paper coils, too much and it will just make the air muggy.

Several members of my family have em. Work like they are supposed to. That technology has been cooling chicken houses for many years.

We have them at our shop and they do cool the air. They work best in lower humidity conditions because the principal behind them is evaporation to cool. We have been really humid in our area but there is still probably a 15 -20 degree difference in temperature at the fan as compared to a regular floor fan blowing hot air. As stated above don't flood the pads we try to keep them about 50% wet

I have a JetStream 2400 on my back patio. They work great. Problem with a smaller one for tailgating is the water reservoirs are small. Not sure how you would keep enough water to it.

My in laws have the one that's made in Denison TX. I was unimpressed.

Not sure what those are, but Port-A-Cool is made in Center TX.

We carry one for our boys tournament baseball team. It sure is nice. I think it gives them an advantage.

I keep one in the steer barn. That with overhead fans blowing down make the stalls down right comfortable. Maintenece is relatively frequent with the amount of minerals in my well water.

I did not know about the trick for keeping the paper fins "partially" dry.

Love them. Having a big ice maker helps.
