I think you're gonna find a lot of different answers, probably followed by some kind of competition between two or more folks that believe their way is the only way. When it is all said and done, you will see that it all boils down to the comfort level of the shooter.
Hill country whitetail move pretty good. 30 yards was my max and I liked 18-20. New Mexico myle deer I killed at 63 yards stood there and took it. Hogs I flung em if I could see em. I used to shoot kind of regular at long distance. I could put it on a block target at 120 yards. Everyone has to make that decision on their own. I just know a wtd can and do jump the string from time to time.
Anything over the limit you are able to actually hit the animal in a manner that it causes it to bleed to death is probably too far...unless the plan is to wound it so you can stab it with a knife in which case the answer is just PAST the limit where you are able to actually hit the animal in a manner that it causes it to bleed to death but not past the limit where you are able to staple it to the ground..which would be just After limit to bleed to death, and slightly after the limit to wound, and just after shooting a tad too low.
unless you use a rage in which case the answer is 5 feet.
its about how close you can get, and still make the shot
These are the answers I was looking for!!!
My best to date is 7 yards. Thru the heart. Looked like I had shot it with a rifle!!!
On average, my shots are anywhere from 15 to 18 yards, short and sweet!!!
The longest shot I ever attempted on a deer was 27 yds. Big 9 point and he ducked my arrow!!
Longest kill shot on a 4 legged animal was 32 yds.
About 97% of every thing I've shot, has been under 20 yds. I guess I got that special ninja skill of getting close!!!
