    Garmin Etrex gps review!

I picked up two of the Garmin Etrex gps's that were on sale. I have been playing with it for two days now and it is the coolest toy I have ever had. I decided to take everyones advice and learn everything about it. It is WAAS enabled (I dont know what that means yet, but it's supossed to be good) Under a thick tree canopy at night, it got me to within 25 feet of my hunting pack. It has an electronic compass, altimeter, and a bunch of other really cool features. I would reccomend it to anyone who is considering a gps!

I take it you didn't get him the money, Sergio? We'll be out there Monday. Justin said you won't be able to make it?

Unfortunely, I couldn't get him the money unless I wanted to spend an extra $25. Then they ran out of tripods today before he could get me one, which I need for the upcoming weekend. If I'm still sick all I'll be doing is sneezing and scaring the deer towards ya'll. What good would that do me? If I can, I'll be there but will have the backup bow as my dad is taking all our stuff for the upcoming hunt next weekend.

Judy got there in time to get me an Extrec as well, but they told her teh tripods never came in and they would not have them on sales the next day like the add said. She was going to go back the next day to pick some up until they told her that. It was stated below that they sold out, so maybe they did not tell her the truth.

I can't wait to get home to play with my extrec.

Try to get well by Monday, Sergio. Justin and I will arrive around 0530 and be on stand by 0600. After our morning stand, we'll hike to the back to a canyon where we smelled sheep last weekend. We hope to see some in there.

Nice Mouflon in your avatar. When did you take him?

I have the etrex as well. I love it, but one bad habit they seem to have is that every now and then the screen will go mostly blank and there will be lines going through it like the lcd is going bad. I found on a geocaching board that this is a common problem and the solution is to "whack" the bottom of the gps on the palm of your hand. It clears the screen instantly. Apparantly the cable that connects the screen to the rest of the gps does not sit perfectly and it can become loose enough to cause the problem. One good whack and it sits back in the socket. I was about the trash mine and get another gps when I stumbled onto this solution. I've had mine for 4 years now and other that the occasional slap to the butt it works great!

Very interesting, lbbf. Hog_hunter and I will be trying out our new GPS's Monday. Hog_hunter is an electronics guy so I wonder if he'll have a more permanent solution to the problem.

                    Hog_hunter...you got your ears on?

What was the flaw? Design flaw or what?

Simple design flaw. Easily fixed if you are inclined to tinker with it.
