Why not make a large U bolt so you don't have to drill into it?

Drill 1/4bolt holes through it and use screws with a metal plate to draw it together. It works.

I have a giant live oak in m back yard that was hit by lightening many years ago, and it split just like that. I didn't do anything other than trip the canopy. It is still split and still a very healthy tree.

Had a big cedar elm in the yard split, and I drilled two3/4" holes thru the trunk at 90-deg to the split, inserted 3/4" all-thread, slid a large washer on each end, then a nut, and cranked 'er down. That was about 10 years ago and the tree is still alive and possibly even thriving.

My tree was 3 times that size so you should have no problems closing up that gap. If you don't care for the DIY approach contact a licensed/certified arborist.

All thread will hold it together, I'd be worried about rot/disease in that split though. Finding the best thing to treat that with is the key IMO.
