    Who Doesn't Use Feeders??

I have two feeder location set-up on our lease, I only shoot hogs on them. Come deer season I scout and move my climber around to intercept points, this tactic has worked very well for me.

Up until then we'd just had a few boars/barrs that would frequent the place. Usually timed with when the persimmons were dropping. Sows showing up changed the name of that game. Using the thick place (cut in 06) as one giant farrowing nest.

I use corn 90% of the time. Sometimes from a feeder, sometimes from a road feeder, sometimes from throwing by hand. Out of that, hand corn is my preference, but since deer where I hunt actually do show up at the feeders, there is no sense in not hunting there.

On the pride part. I am pretty proud of kills I take from under a feeder. Why? Well, I bought that feeder. I put it together. I maintained it. I've climbed a ladder numerous times in the heat to keep it full of corn. I studied to find out the best throwing times... and how much. I've fixed stuff that weathers over time. I've moved em when they just weren't in the optimal location. I've put up stands around it. Figured out the best location based on wind and deer travel. Guest hunting over somebody else's feeder/setup is one thing... hunting a setup you put together is a completely different rewarding experience.

Sometimes I go off and hunt where there isn't a feeder... but I usually take corn to toss out...

          Whitetail- feeder

mule deer- NO feeder, but there is an occasional expectation to that.

I don't use feeders in WI., but I do use them in Sonora. In WI we have food plots that we put in, plus agricultural fields (corn, soy beans, etc.) as far as the eye can see. SW of Sonora we have rock & sand. I look at feeders as Food Plots in a Can. Plus in WI we have rivers, lakes & ponds everywhere. Without water troughs in Sonora, not sure where the animals would go to water. I guess the neighbors!!!
