    The countries who don't have access to the trillions of dollars worth of gee wiz gagetry are stuffing into the F-35 are building a bunch of cheap planes. And guess what? Test after test have shown "a bunch" always defeats the fighters that rely on technology. I remember at one time the F-16 was less than $10 mill with tax title and license.

    I sure hope we are building some kind of advanced UAV with good air-to-air and air-to-surface capability.

      Seven years behind schedule and $163 billion over budget, David Martin gets an inside look at what makes the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter the most expensive weapons system in history.

      Don't believe everything you read fellas-even if it's from the internet!
      A lot of truth there! But sadly the aircraft is nearly 10 years and incredibly over budget. I hope Lockheed Martin folks in Ft. Worth can get it together...........quickly!

        There hasn't been a defense contract that hasn't gone over budget,it's just that this is the biggest contract ever,and yes it is going to be scrutinized beyond belief.the media only grossly exaggerates the whole thing.

          And that is justified? Well heck, I need to get in on the government defense contract game. Money don't matter, thus taxpayers don't matter. Oh, my brother was one of the few test engineers (dessert & ice) at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland for the military version of the HUMVEE.............. the stories are hilariously sad! If you can't execute you definitely need to be scrutinized beyond belief! Everyone gets a pass except the folks footing the bill!

            What do you do at Lockheed?

            The F35 probably makes the B2 people look good! Pops is a retired bomber and he never liked anything past the B52. They're fixing several of the old ones up and putting them back in service I think.

              Aircraft mechanic sir.i am on the Mod team and travel to all bases where they are stationed.despite the previously posted bogus reports,it has surpassed all expectations and is being requested by the leading Generals to double the production in the near future.
              I absolutely love the B2 and have been fortunate enough to watch her fly out at Edwards AFB numerous times,quite an incredible aircraft!

                    Considering we just sent a ship
                    to Pluto and Juno just slung itself around earth towards wherever it's going I'd say y'all are doing some serious rocket surgery. Keep up the good work.

                            What part of Tech Pubs? I just retired from F-16 Pubs.

                              'mature'...yep, most definitely fully mature. How long they been working on the 35?? Inexcusable.

                              ~~~~~~~~~~~
                              Everyone needs to read Flyboys...the Japs bombed Pearl Harbor in 1941 & we took ideas of fighter planes & bombers into production / war in a matter of months. It's just stupid that the actual procurement & contracts now take longer than time it took the US to defeat Germany & Japan. Without the control of the air & success of the manufacturing process, the war could have been much longer and costly.
                              Seriously, this is just stupid & a total waste of tax payer money that could have actually been a success if the private sector was in control where $$$$ was actually accounted for in regard to results...our govt is screwing up the greatest generation legacy in record time. Pitiful!!
