Tile. We have it in our utility, kitchen, dining, living and in my trophy room (converted patio). Easy to clean and maintain and the dogs do not scratch the tile with both being over 100#'s and very rambunctious.

Neither. Becoming a fan of stained concrete.

We decided to go with tile. It has stained concrete now and I am not a fan. It looks unfinished and "cold".

I did laminate and wish I did tile.. The only thing I didn't like about tile was grout lines.. One guy said if he didn't do grout it would crack and the other guy said he could do it no prob..

It doesn't scratch too easy if you get a quality product but water will definitely cause damage .

This is one of the first things on a long list of projects but I am going to pass on doing this one myself. Right now I'm working about 70/wk minimum and we are ready to get this one done. I am going to start a before and after thread when we get a little more work done.

Not sure how I missed this! I vote laminate in living areas/hallways and tile in kitchen/bathrooms. IMO, tile is not as "inviting/cozy" as wood floors in living areas. Maybe because one of my college houses had tile throughout the house. I didn't like walking on it, sitting on it, laying on it, and it was always cold. Also, I didn't like there not being a "separation" between rooms such as living/kitchen, etc.

Well, my wife went to Lowe's and got a quote. For materials it was $853 total which was cheaper than Home Depot, and then the installation was only around $1200 for a grand total of about $2200 after tax and delivery. So it was about a grand cheaper. My wife went ahead and decided to use Lowe's since we can put the entire flooring on her Lowe's card.
