If you get the Rigid make sure you get the newest model. They still have the older models so be careful. Not that there's anythign wrong with last years model...

Have used every brand out for commercial overhead door, and dock equipment installs. The best i have found is the makita brand with dewalt in second. Milwaukee for heavy drills and band saws. Bosch hammer drills and sds bits are the ****. Rigid and ryobi are great for light duty and the cost.

I build and install commercial cabinets. I have used them all. Makita gets my vote. I didn't think I would use the impact, but it's great. Also good for running metal screws in purlin on metal buildings.

I like my Ryobi but it is mainly suited for use around the house. I use Dewalt for applications at work. It just handles the more demanding jobs better and is built better.

x2 on the Ridgid....just bought the newest set ...and it performs great..much better than my Dewalt set.... the 1/4" impact driver puts up something like 1,750 inch/lbs or 145 ft/lbs of torque...... more than enough for the average guy.

I just saw a Milwaukee drill and impact combo for $169.99. 18v lithium I believe.

                    Update.

Went with the Rigid combo. Battery life was ok, but the drill was a dog and the hand chuck would not stay tight.

Returned it and went back with a Porter Cable combo. Impact made it thru about (20) 1/4" X 3 1/2"deck screws in wet treated lumber before it crashed. Returned it.

Bought the Makita combo....Ran about 350 screws with the impact...flawless. Drilled multiple 1/2' holes in timbers....flawless.
A little more money, but Makita is in a totally different class. Lesson learned.

To bad everyone of them are made in China though.

From a Makita guy, this is what I like to read.

Yessir! I have the Makita set and it just doesn't quit, batteries charge in no time too!

I have a Milwaukee impact that stays in my truck tool box as well, battery life is excellent.

Only time I use my drill is with a drill bit, or need the clutch. Other than that I love the impact driver.

I have been building floating aluminum boat docks the last few months and we use the impacts to run self tapping screws and run bolts and nuts in. I'm running Ryobi. Some of the crew run Porter cable, Rigid and another Ryobi as well.

Growing up we used Makita working with my stepdad. Those things were awesome.
