UPDATE - She took the second round of antivenin well and should be able to come home around 8:30 tonight. She'll be getting the guest room all to herself to recover.
    Awesome news!!!

Interesting. I hope your pooch has a speedy recovery.

Is there a life insurance on a pet?

Sorry about your pup. Why is the antivenin so expensive?

Dang, sorry to see this. Hope she makes a full recovery.

My dog just got bit by a cottonmouth on Sunday. This is the second bite in the past 6 months. The first bite was in the belly and required surgery for all the tissue damage but when it happened he didn't get real sick other than being real lethargic and not being able to walk around. This most recent bite reminds me of what you described. It got him on the nose and about 2 minutes after he was bit he emptied his stomach and lost control of his bowels and then fell over and his breathing was very labored. It was terrible to watch. I didn't think he was gonna make it. We poured some liquid benadryl in his mouth and rushed him to the vet for antivenom. He is back home now and doing much better. I am looking into a snake avoidance class for him now.

I get my Labs Trained in the snake avoidance training, best $50.00 you can spend, took them two years in a row and Wayne said don't bring back, they have it instilled.

My dogs get regular rattlesnake vaccinations. Also take them each summer to a snake avoidance clinic each year. I think the vaccinations work pretty well. My 8 year old JRT got hit last summer. He did not feel too hot for about a day but the next day he acted like nothing ever happened. He has had the shots since he was less than a year old. I believe in them.
