    His speeds are consistent across multiple devices. I presume that means cell phones, tablets, and computers. That being the case, drivers aren't going to be the problem.

    I have the same router, and I average about 38mbps over wifi, with a consistent 85-90mbps wired speed, over the normal 2.4Ghz signal.

    By default, the 5ghz connection will be a different wifi id. similar to the other, but with .media, using the same password.

    If you can't get better speeds after this stuff, and using inSSIDer, then you may very well just have a bad unit.

      If you're getting the right speeds with ethernet, that is specified by your ISP, then it's not your modem.

          One thing I do know. Most of companies will throttle you, reducing your download speed, if you go over a certain amount per period. They don't tell you this.

          Also when you use most of the speed tests your testing the speed between your modem/router and your ISP. The throttling only affects what is coming to the ISP. This makes it difficult to detect.

          Your speed is also affected by the number of hops, routers, that your request has to go through to get to the site your requesting.

          I could get more technical if you need me to.

            The speeds are constant between multiple phones and laptop.

            I'm on a channel by myself, not on a guest network, and can't find any restrictions.

                  I would replace the wireless router, I had the same problem a few months ago and it ended up being the router was going out. Had all the same issues you are describing, $50 router and problems solved. I was using a higher end Cisco router and ended up with a netgear, they are 4-6 year life expectancy devices.
