    Internet speed help?

My wireless internet sucks! Over wifi I am getting anywhere from .25 Mbps to about 1.65mbps down and .3 up using multiple devices. With my laptop hard wired straight from the modem I'm getting 5 to 6 Mbps and .6 up, same results hard wired through the router. This is my router http://m.belkin.com/us/p/P-F9K1102/ , I've only had the router for about a year or two. Should I try a new router? What else can I do? Also wile taking wifi speeds I was sitting about 8' away from router.

Off hand, I would say download a wifi scanner, and scan all the wifi channels. If other devices are on the same channels as your wifi, they could be "jamming" you. I use inssider, but there probably are better ones available.

inSSIDer for Home gives you visibility into your Wi-Fi environment.

If you find that something is transmitting on top of your channel, get into the setup of your wireless router and change it to a channel nothing is on.

x2. If there are lots of wireless networks around, most people don't know to change the channel. Otherwise, get a linksys. I am personally not a fan of D-Link or Belkin.

Also see which frequency you are on. 2.4 or 5 ghz. Mine is faster on 5.

You also would preferably have your router up higher. That does not seem what your problem is but it is better for it to be higher for an umbrella effect

Update the drivers on your nic card as well as anything on the Belkin.

What are you checking the speed with? If you have a smart phone, check it with that too. Speedtest.net has an app.

                          I would reset the modem.

Nic is your wireless network interface card. You should be able to find drivers online.

If your modem and/or wireless router are older I would replace them.
