    1/2 Gallon Whiskey per Week?

You might want to check your math on that.

A typical mixed drink will have 1 ounce of liquor in it. 64 ounces to 1/2 gallon. That should last him 64 days. He's drinking it in seven days. So that averages out to nine per day.

Yea but who really only puts 1oz of whiskey in their drink

1/2 gallon is a lot more than I drink in a week, when I was in college it was a different story.

Doesn't really matter what people on this site think, its about what you and your family think is enough!

It probably does to him, considering he asked for opinions.

A shot is 1.5 oz so technically he is having 6 shots a day. That is two real stiff drinks. Not good for you every day but if he could cut it in half that would be a lot better and he could still enjoy a drink.

I'd suggest taking a couple of weeks off. Even if you don't drink during that time, but are completely obsessing over alcohol and drinking the whole two weeks(ie; counting down the days till you can drink again, then there possibly is a problem. As far as feeling good in the morning, I always thought I felt good the next day. I had equated not being completely hungover as good.
I realized that in a 24 hour day I was either drunk asleep or hungover.Only after I stopped did I realize that. It affected my job more than I knew. Cost me a ton. I know every situation is different. It got to the point I was drinking an 18 pack during the week and close to a 30 a day in the weekend. Like others have said, if it's not affecting work and family then it's probably not excessive. Maybe textbook excessive. Moderation was never a word in my vocabulary. But be aware of the fact that tolerance increases and that you could turn around one day and you'll be drinking double that. I don't know your age and amount of time you've drank this much. Maybe you are able to moderate it. Not judging in the least, merely giving my experience as it relates to drinking.

OP-I've been there.... I don't know if your consumption is "too much" but it is likely to not be beneficial to your health.

I was drinking a handle of scotch a week spending way too much and feeling terrible every morning. I have an issue that if I have one drink I've opened the flood gates and will drink until I decide it's finally time for bed. I'm not talking about a two finger pour, I'm talking about filling up a glass with 8oz and drinking it.

I quit in February when my wife said she was pregnant....it was easier than I thought it would be and I can promise you that I don't miss it AT ALL. Now I have a glass of tea or two or three while I wind down at night. Good luck with your journey, take care of yourself.
